Sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, was administered in doses of 100 mg, 200 mg, and 400 mg daily for 3 consecutive days. We performed a systematic review of studies and interventions on erectile dysfunction, using a structured search, searching in the Medline, EBSCO, CDSM, and Web of Science databases for English language papers (from 1 January 2000 to 31 June 2011) in the following databases: (e) MEDLINE, (c) OVID, (d) LCT, (e) Scopus, (f) EBSCO, (g) EBSCO, (h) Scopus, (i) MEDLINE, (j) MEDLINE, (k) MEDLINE, (l) MEDLINE, (m) MEDLINE, (o) Medline, (p) MEDLINE, (q) MEDLINE. We also performed a literature review in order to identify the studies published before 31 June 2011. We searched titles and abstracts of relevant articles in the databases for eligible papers. We excluded titles and abstracts, and all relevant articles were reviewed and screened.
We included studies that met the following criteria: (1) the type of research intervention, (2) the outcomes measured, and (3) the quality assessed. We excluded those that were unclear in the design of the intervention, or that had a lack of information in the design of the intervention. The first study included a clinical trial and a psychosocial study. The second study included a clinical trial and a psychosocial study. The third study included a clinical trial and a psychosocial study. The first and second studies included the same intervention. The third study included only clinical trials with a placebo. The last study included a clinical trial and a psychosocial study. We excluded studies with a placebo. The authors had a previous history of research participation in any form. The authors provided written informed consent.
